Refund part of a payment

Modified on Fri, Sep 11 at 3:55 PM

You don’t have to give the whole payment back. You can return part of it now and the rest later.

Type the amount into Reverse base amount, and that’s the base — not the total the customer paid. If there was an additional fee on the payment, it’s worked out separately and added on top. Check the Refund to customer figure before you confirm.

Do it

  1. Open the payment and start the reversal, as in Refund a payment.
  2. Replace the amount in Reverse base amount with the part you’re giving back.
The line underneath tells you how much base is still available.
  3. Check Refund to customer, then confirm.

Coming back for the rest

You can reverse the remainder later, in as many goes as you need. The available amount drops each time.

Once there’s nothing left to give back, the option disappears from the menu — that’s how you know it’s fully refunded, rather than an error.
