Turn on your terminal

Modified on Mon, Sep 14 at 5:41 PM

A terminal with a dark screen has usually just powered down. It won’t start again while it’s still plugged in, so unplug it first.

Turn it on

  1. Take the power cable out of the left side of the terminal.
Plugged in and switched off, the power button only shows you the battery level. It won’t start the terminal up.
  2. Press and hold the power button, also on the left side.
Keep holding until an icon appears on the screen. This can take a full minute — don’t let go early.
  3. Once it has started, put the power cable back in.

If it still won’t start

  1. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet — not a power strip, and not the computer.
See Should we leave them plugged in?
  2. Check the light on the side of the terminal to see whether it is charging.
If it is not charging, try a different outlet.
  3. Contact DealerWorks Support.
Have the terminal’s name ready — it is on the sticker on the back.

If it starts and then shuts itself off

That’s a different problem, and the battery level tells you which one. Read The terminal keeps turning itself off.
