Restart a terminal

Modified on Fri, Sep 11 at 1:08 PM

A full restart clears most terminals that are frozen, stuck on a loading screen, or dropping off the network.

Before you start

If a payment was going through when it froze, stop here. Read It froze while a payment was going through before you restart or re-run anything.

Otherwise, close and reopen the DealerWorks app first. It fixes the same symptoms and you don’t have to unplug anything.

See Close and reopen the DealerWorks app. Come back here if that doesn’t do it.

Restart the terminal

  1. Unplug the power cable from the left side of the terminal.
  2. Press and hold the power button, also on the left side.
  3. If the screen is on — the power-off and restart options appear. Press Restart.
  4. If the screen is already off — keep holding until an icon appears.
This can take a full minute — keep holding.
  5. Plug the power cable back in.
  6. Run a card through it before you go back to work.

If it keeps connecting and dropping

Unplug it, hold the power button until you get Power off, and leave it off for five full minutes before you plug it back in.

Five minutes, not one.

If it still isn’t working

Contact DealerWorks Support. Have this ready:

  • The terminal’s name — see Find your terminal’s name
  • What the screen says, word for word
  • Whether other terminals at your store are working right now
