Take a cash payment

Modified on Sat, Sep 12 at 1:29 PM

Recording cash a customer has handed over. Nothing is sent to a card reader — this is a record of money you already have.

Record the payment

  1. Go to General → Process Transactions and click the tab for your department.
  2. Find the order and open the payment window.
If your orders come from your DMS, search for the order and check the balance. If you enter payments yourself, fill in the customer and the amount, then click Receive Payment.
  3. Select the Cash tab.
  4. Enter the denominations you took in Cash Reference Information.
    For example 2×20, 1×10.
  5. Check the amount, then click Process.

Writing down the bills makes cashing out at the end of the day quicker, and it is the first thing you will want if the drawer does not balance.

If you cannot see the tab

Payment types are switched on per department, so a tab you had in one department may not be there in another. Your dealership can also rename them, so the wording on your screen may not match this article word for word. If the one you need is missing, your dealership’s account administrator can contact DealerWorks Support and ask for it to be turned on.
