Split a payment across two methods

Modified on Mon, Sep 28 at 11:12 AM

When a customer pays one balance with two different methods at the same time — part on a card, part in cash, say.

Take both payments

  1. On the payment screen, click Split Transaction. You may be asked to choose a reason for the split.
If you cannot see it, your account does not have that permission. Your dealership’s account administrator can contact DealerWorks Support to have it added.
  2. Enter the amount for the first payment and click Confirm.
The amount shown is the balance left to pay. If it’s wrong, click the pencil to correct it before you take the payment.
  3. Choose how they are paying that part, and process it as you normally would.
Any method your department has can be used for either part.
  4. Check the summary screen and click Confirm.
DealerWorks works out the remaining balance for you.
  5. Choose the method for the second part and click Process.
  6. Print or email the receipt, then click Finish & Close.
Print Split Receipt gives you a separate receipt for each payment.

Add an internal note if your dealership asks for one.

Paying with more than two cards

After each payment you come back to the split screen, with the new remaining balance showing.

  1. Type the amount for the next card into Transaction Amount, then click Finish Payment.
The button says Finish Payment even when you’re only paying part.
  2. Choose how that part is being paid, then click Process.
If Terminal is selected, it goes to the terminal. Pick Keyed Entry first if you’re typing the card in.
  3. Repeat until nothing is left.

Why the receipts add up to more than the order

If your dealership adds an additional fee to card payments, each card payment carries its own. The split screen shows amounts before the fee.
