Your customer may have seen a box warning them about an additional fee and still not been charged one. That is working correctly — the warning appears before the card type is known.
The rule
A card that runs as debit is not charged the additional fee, even though the customer saw the warning. A card that runs as credit is. The decision happens when the payment is processed, not when the warning appears.
Apple Pay and Google Pay follow the same rule. The card behind the wallet is what counts, so paying with a wallet is not a way round the fee.
How to check
- Go to Reporting → Transactions and find the payment.
- Look at the Payment Method column.
It shows the card, the last four digits, and Debit or Credit underneath. - Compare the Amount and the Total.
Any fee sits between them. If they match, no fee was charged.
If your customer says they were charged more than they expected
The figure shown at the bottom of their screen throughout is the cash price. The fee is only added in the confirmation box at the very end, so a customer who read the running total and not the final box will be surprised by the difference.
If the transaction record still does not match what they are telling you, contact DealerWorks Support with the invoice or RO number and the amount.
