Send a payment request

Modified on Sat, Sep 12 at 3:31 PM

A payment request sends your customer a link so they can pay from their own phone. It sits alongside the other ways of taking a payment, on the order itself.

Send one

  1. Find the order in Process Transactions and click Payment next to it.
If the amount has changed since the order was written, you get a note telling you what it went from and to before you carry on.
  2. Choose Payment Request from the row of payment options along the top.
It sits in the same row as every other way of taking a payment your dealership uses.
  3. Enter a Mobile Number, an Email Address, or both.
Either will do — filling in both sends it to both.
  4. Check the Message.
It is already filled in with your dealership’s wording and the amount. You can change it for this one request without changing anyone else’s.
  5. Add anything else you need — attach a file, add a Note, or pick the sales person.
  6. Click Send Payment Request.

Check the amount before you send

The amount sits on the left of the screen with a pencil beside it, so you can correct it here if it is wrong.

If the customer is paying part of it another way, use Split Transaction instead.

Sending on someone else’s behalf

If you are sending the request for somebody else — a cashier sending it for an advisor, say — choose their name in Select sales person.

The payment is recorded against whoever is picked there, not against you. That is what keeps their cashier report right.

If the payment is your own, you do not need to touch it.

What happens next

  • Your customer gets the link and has seven days to use it.
  • You get a notification in DealerWorks when they pay — you do not have to keep checking.
  • Until then the request sits in Open Orders → Payment Requests, where you can resend it or cancel it.
