Some things a customer brings to the counter are not payments you take — they are amounts you record, so the office knows they were part of how the order was settled.
What this covers
| EXAMPLE | WHAT HAPPENS |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer rewards, such as a $25 credit from the manufacturer | Nothing is charged. DealerWorks records that the customer used it. |
| Store credit your dealership holds for a customer | The same — a record, not a charge. |
Your accounting office needs that record to balance the order, which is the whole reason the option exists.
Record it
- Open the order and the payment window.
- Choose the tab for the type you are recording.
Your dealership names these itself, so it may say GM Rewards rather than Rewards. - Enter the reference your dealership asks for.
Often a code from the rewards program. - Enter the amount and process it as you would any other payment.
No money moves. Nothing is sent to a card reader and nothing is taken from the customer — you are writing down what they already had.
If you cannot see it
These options are set up for each dealership, and only DealerWorks can turn them on. If your store uses a rewards program and there is no tab for it, your account administrator can contact DealerWorks Support and ask.
