Take a payment on a terminal

Modified on Fri, Sep 11 at 5:31 PM

The usual way to take a card payment in person. You send the amount to the card reader and the customer taps, inserts or swipes.

Take the payment

  1. Go to General → Process Transactions and click the tab for your department.
  2. Find the order and open the payment window.
If your orders come from your DMS, search for the order and check the balance. If you enter payments yourself, fill in the customer and the amount, then click Receive Payment.
  3. Select the Terminal tab.
  4. Choose the terminal you are using and click Process.
The amount is already on it.
  5. Check the confirmation screen, then click Confirm.
It shows the amount, any additional fee, and the total your customer pays.
  6. Ask the customer to tap, insert or swipe.
The screen updates on its own when the payment finishes.

If you are not sure whether a payment went through, do not run it again. Check the transaction list first — retrying can charge your customer twice. See It froze while a payment was going through.
